Fifth commercial bridge planned for 2024, will connect the two Laredos.
The City of Laredo currently owns four bridges, including the World Trade Bridge that links to Nuevo Laredo; the Colombia-Solidaridad Bridge further northwest and connects to the community of Colombia, Nuevo Leon; and International Bridges 1 and 2.
The 4/5 Bridge, known as bridge number 4 in Mexico of the 5 that Laredo has, was evaluated through a study that lasted two years, with the participation of approximately 1,600 specialists, at a cost of 10 million dollars.
With nearshoring booming in the Los Dos Laredos region, the need for a new bridge becomes urgent, which represents great news not only for this area, but also for the growing commercial exchange between Mexico and the United States.
Approval for construction of the bridge is expected in February 2024.
Webb County, Texas is awaiting presidential permission to build the international bridge, which would mean it would exercise management and the benefits would accrue to it. The project is authorized as a public-private investment, involving governments and private investors from both countries.
The location of this new international crossing is projected to be built at kilometer 18 of the national highway to Monterrey, Mexico; and on the U.S. side between the communities of El Cenizo and Rio Bravo.
“It is essential to have a good development that has the mobility that industrial parks and cities require today. In 2021, we have the historical record in Bridge 3, it is the year in which more containers have crossed and we see that very soon we will require another bridge.”
